Option 2: Direct Hire

We arrange for you to meet a minimum of 2 gardeners for you to select the person you prefer. You then arrange with the gardener how often and for how long, you want them to visit.

You pay the gardener direct, and you pay us a monthly or quarterly management fee.

Our management charge covers the cost of the introduction, the insurance we provide and the backup and support of arranging a replacement should the gardener be off for any reason or if you decide you would like to replace them altogether.

Managing Your Arrangement

  • Once the arrangement is up and running, then most of the interaction will be between you and your gardener. However, you have the security of knowing that Find A Local Gardener is here in case there are any problems and also for information, help and assistance.

  • Please be mindful of the amount of work you are asking the gardener to do in the allotted time. If you find your gardener is not completing everything in each visit it may be that priorities need to be assigned, or tasks completed on alternate visits.

  • If this isn’t suitable perhaps the number of hours the gardener is with you needs to be increased. Please do not ask your gardener to work more than the hours we have initially agreed without notifying us first, as it would mean they were not covered by our insurance.

  • If you are not happy with the quality of the gardener’s work, please address this as soon as possible. You can speak to the gardener directly or we can do this on your behalf.

  • If you would prefer to have a different gardener, we can, of course, arrange this, but please be aware a replacement might not be immediately available.

  • If anything is damaged or broken during one of the scheduled visits by your gardener, please notify us immediately.
  • Should you wish to cancel the agreement with Find A Local Gardener, we require one month’s notice in writing from you. Should Find A Local Gardener wish to cancel the agreement, we also undertake to tender a month’s notice in writing.

Holiday and Sickness

  • If your gardener is unable to make the normal visit, they will contact you directly to attempt to reschedule. They will also give you plenty of notice of any holiday they may require. If you require a replacement whilst your regular gardener is off sick or on holiday you must let us know – we do not automatically make alternative arrangements as all clients have different needs.

  • If you, or members of your family become ill, please let your gardener know that you will not require them. If you do not require your gardener whilst you are away on holiday, please give them at least one week’s notice.

  • All our gardeners are self-employed, so short notice cancellations mean we are rarely able to offer them work elsewhere, and this will have a direct impact on their earnings. We would, therefore, ask that you pay your gardener as normal if the late cancellation is through no fault of their own.

Insurance

  • Throughout the term of your contract, we cover the gardener’s work with our £2 million public liability insurance. There is an excess of £250 that you, the client, are responsible for should you wish to pursue a claim.

Customer House Keys

  • Some of our clients entrust their gardener with a set of their keys. This is entirely down to your personal preference.

  • You may prefer to be at home or choose to fit a key safe and give the gardener a code instead.

  • We can provide you with a key security form for the gardener to sign if you wish, please let us know if you require a copy.

  • If the gardening arrangement is cancelled by either client or gardener, we expect the gardener to return your keys immediately by personal hand delivery.

  • Please bear in mind this is an agreement between you and the gardener, Find A Local Gardener is not in any way responsible for your keys.

Health & Safety

  • The gardeners are instructed to always take maximum care. This relates to the type of equipment they use, and the type of work carried out, particulary when they are working at height.

  • The gardeners are not insured to work above a height of 8 feet, this means they are advised not to climb trees, work on garage roofs or climb ladders against the side of any building.
